Friday Female: Spotlight on Daughter Of The Soil

daughter of the soilDaughter Of The Soil

December is here! How did that happen? Daughter of the soil is our friday female spotlight today and i am so excited to share the interview with you. I sat down with Maria Magembe, who forms one half of the dynamic duo behind the brand. I love it when women come together and create amazing things, and these guys have done just that.

Sit back, grab a cuppa and watch as we talk about natural skincare, dealing with setbacks in business and giving back through charitable deeds. Make sure you scroll down to read my main takeaways from this interview.

Know what you’re doing?

The biggest thing Maria said to me that I think is of the the utmost importance, is knowing where you are and where you’re heading.

We know what we put into it and we know what we want to get out of it

Having a sense of direction is so important in building a business and I’m so glad Maria mentioned that. When they started Daughter of the Soil, they had a very clear vision of their brand identity and what they wanted to create.

Be flexible to adapting yourself, listen to what your customers are saying and respond accordingly.

Planning!

I can’t stress how important this bit is, and I think most of my friday females have mentioned this one as well. Maria stated that she often sits down with her business partner to plan and set goals for Daughter of the Soil. They set weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly goals that they revisit often to help keep them on track.

Be a problem solver because it’s not a smooth road. You need to constantly test channels, get feedback, learn and adjust.

Lessons from Dragon’s Den

When things don’t work out, there’s always going to be other opportunities around the corner. Learn to forgive yourself when it seems like things have gone wrong, pick yourself up and keep going.

I really enjoyed the interview, simply for the passion that easily exudes from Maria and her philanthropic nature. I was so inspired by her foundation that she created with her partner, that helps women farmers in Uganda. There are not a lot of people who will start a business and set up a not-for-profit foundation ta the same time. It’s not an easy thing to do and it just shows how big their hearts are and how much they want to pay it forward.

Ultimately Daughter of the Soil is a natural skincare brand that has an amazing story behind it’s creation. It’s founders are very passionate about what they do and their business seems to be based on family and heritage pride which is beautiful.

Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams

There you have it ladies and gentlemen, two women who are unapologetically about their dream. If you want to learn more about Daughter Of The Soil you can visit their website or instagram. They’l have more information on where you can find their products online and instore.

I would love to know what your golden nuggets were from this blog. Please do leave me a comment below and share your thoughts. If you missed our last Friday Female with Aude-Aline you can read it here.

Till next time, Love the life you’re living!

Amanda xoxo

I like that when they started the brand they had a very clear idea of where they were going. I didn’t hear about their products before but I do like the concept behind them and the brand’s name.

What a great philosophy to encourage people to have a goal. No wonder these Daughters of the Soil are doing so well if they are so focussed.

Businesses really need to be more flexible and willing to adapt based on their customers and of course, to remain relevant and up to date. I’m so impressed with this interview I’m going to do some more research into their products.
