Body Shaming!!

The body shaming phenomenon is not exactly new to the health and fitness industry, but has it actually gone too far lately? I wonder…..

Body shaming

Everyone knows about ‘fat shaming’, and we’re all very clear on how wrong it is, even going as far as scorning those who partake in such behaviour. “That’s nasty? What kind of person fat shames other people?! Ugh!!!

I have to say though, one type of body shaming, that I hardly ever hear people address is that of ‘fit people’. So by ‘fit’, I mean those people who decide they want to eat healthy, they want to workout and be strong/have more energy…be fit! We all know that our bodies come in sooooo many different shapes and sizes, and saying that, there really should be no (one size fits all) definition of fit and healthy. I’m seeing a lot of body shaming/name calling online aimed at people who are simply trying to work on their health. Somehow it’s totally wrong to fat-shame, yet we have absolutely no problem with telling someone they’re too skinny/muscly etc. seriously???? I’ve been on this fitness journey for a couple years now, and actually had to deal with people telling me I was starving myself, too skinny, not toned enough, showing off, the list goes on. I find it so sad that there are no longer any boundaries when it comes to this and everyone suddenly is an expert on YOUR life. It really has to stop, let’s try and do better as human beings. This poem is called “‘That Kind Of Love’, by Rebecca Lammersen, and the first time I ever read it I was blown away. It was like she had reached into my soul and seen my heart’s desire, and was now holding a mirror up to me and reminding me not to settle for any less that what what I truly want. Two years later and I want to share this you, not for any other reason than to appreciate and acknowledge how beautiful true love is/ can be/ should be. The  original article containing the poem can be found here. If reading this doesn’t stir up something in you, then gosh….I just don’t know! As for me, sign me up to THAT kind of love please:-) It’s a little on the long side, but totally worth it. 💖

That Kind of Love

Yeah, I believe in love.
The kind you can’t hide from, you know?

The kind of love you miss when
he gets up to go to the bathroom,
or to get a glass of water,
and he walks back in,
like a soldier, comin’ home from an eighteen month deployment.

That kind of love. View Full Post

Recap

I can’t believe it’s been a little over a week since I launched my blog. It’s always so nerve wracking to take that first step and put yourself out there, but it’s got to be done.
I definitely think taking part in the 30 day blogging challenge has given me the push up the backside I desperately needed. If you’re just tuning in, here’s a little recap of the best of Amanda Millie week one…….

Reflecting and reminiscing today and I realized how supported and divinely guarded we are ALL the time, even more so at the times we feel alone. Looking back at the last 6 years, I barely recognize the girl I used to be.

That girl (not woman), was sooo concerned about appearances, so easily swayed by other people’s opinions and too concerned about pleasing everyone at the expense of her own happiness. She had no idea of who she was or who she could become. I remember being constantly unhappy, always judging/comparing myself to other people which of cos made me even more unhappy as I always seemed to fall short. View Full Post
