Body Shaming

Body shaming, a long-standing issue in the health and fitness industry, begs the question: Has it reached new heights lately? We’re familiar with the backlash against ‘fat shaming,’ but what about the subtle body shaming aimed at those pursuing a fit and healthy lifestyle? It’s time to address this phenomenon that often goes unnoticed.

In a world where bodies vary in shapes and sizes, the definition of being fit and healthy shouldn’t conform to a one-size-fits-all standard. Surprisingly, there’s a significant amount of online body shaming directed at individuals working on their health journey. While fat-shaming is rightfully condemned, comments about being too skinny or too muscly often go unchallenged.

Having embarked on my own fitness journey, I’ve personally encountered judgmental remarks about my appearance, body size, and even accusations of showing off. It’s disheartening to witness the lack of boundaries and the sudden surge of self-appointed experts commenting on personal lives. It’s time to put an end to this – let’s strive for a more compassionate society.

Casey Ho‘s video on the “perfect body” sheds light on the rampant body shaming and cyberbullying happening daily. Imagine a world where kindness prevails. You never know the internal struggles someone may be facing, despite their external appearance. As someone who has battled body dysmorphic disorder since the age of nine, I can attest to the truth of this statement.

While body positivity has made significant strides, it’s essential to remember that being body positive doesn’t mean abandoning the pursuit of optimal health. Let’s initiate a conversation about these pressing issues and collectively work towards a more understanding and supportive environment.

Ending on a hopeful note, let’s open up dialogue about body shaming experiences in the comments below. It’s time for everyone to take responsibility for fostering a kinder and more empathetic world. Remember, the power to make a change lies within each one of us.

Till next time as always, Love the life you’re living! Xo

It’s happening loads recently, but I think a lot more people are starting to stand up and say it is wrong. I think a lot of it towards smaller people is stemmed from jealousy, and I also know a lot of people who carry a little extra fat but are the fittest people I’ve seen! So it just shows everyone is different, hopefully soon people will realise that!

I think a lot of people are taking it too far – we shouldn’t be shaming large or little people!

As the mother of an 11 year old girl who is already starting to worry about her weight (she is like a beanpole but thinks she has a tummy) I despair of all the obsession with body image in this country.

I know exactly what you mean, it’s so frustrating coming from a mothers point of view because we just want to lock them up and protect them from all this nonsense.

I think people focus way too much on their and other people’s bodies than what is really important. A lot of internet trolls that body shame people i honestly believe they are unhappy people who try to hurt others to make themselves feel better.
